Richard Berlin

Executive Director, DREAM

Richard Berlin has been the Executive Director at DREAM since 1997, as well as a founding member of DREAM Charter School. Under his leadership, DREAM has grown from a seasonal recreation program with one staff member to a thriving community-based organization recognized locally and nationally with numerous awards for programmatic and operational excellence. Richard holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and attended a Master’s Program in Political Theory at the London School of Economics and Political Science in London, England. Additionally, he has completed certificate programs at Columbia University’s Institute for Not-for-Profit Management in both Nonprofit Management and Leadership Development. Richard has also been a Leadership Fellow at the Citizens’ Committee for the Children of New York City.

Alan Van Capelle

President and CEO, Educational Alliance

Alan Van Capelle Alan van Capelleis a nationally recognized leader in the field of civil rights and social justice. As President and CEO of Educational Alliance, he leads a network of community centers that brings together and partners with diverse communities in Lower Manhattan, offering individuals and families high-quality, multi-generational programs and services that enhance their well-being and socioeconomic opportunities.Mr. van Capelle won major legislative victories for LGBTQ rights as Executive Director of the Empire State Pride Agenda, and was the leading architect of the campaign for marriage equality in New York. Mr. van Capelle earned his MPA from Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service at New York University, where he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor and teaches on organizational culture, and a Bachelor of Science from the City University of New York.

Kevin Ervin

Executive Director, Change for Kids

Kevin Ervin joined the Change for Kids’ team as Executive Director in January 2019 where he has reinvigorated the vision and mission of the organization for its next exciting phase of evolution and impact. Kevin is a lifelong advocate for youth, and has worked to level the playing field for kids at organizations like Vacamas and Renaissance Youth Center, and at the NYC Department of Education. Always putting kids’ needs first, Kevin has spearheaded the creation of a number of mentorship programs, such as GLOW and FAST, and believes in the importance of positive role models in which youth can see themselves reflected. An accomplished musician and music producer, Kevin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Leadership from Northeastern University, and an Executive Masters in Public Administration from New York University as well as leadership fellowships from Rutgers Institute of Ethical Leadership and The Center for Creative Leadership.

Imran Khan

CEO and Co-Founder, Embarc

Imran Khan is the Co-Founder and CEO of Embarc, a leading organization in the movement for experiential learning. He has spent the last 12 years of his career connecting students, teachers and schools to learning beyond the classroom, first as a teacher in the south side of Chicago, then with Embarc. Embarc has been recognized by the UChicago Consortium as one of the best at designing developmental experiences in the country. Imran received a highly regarded Ashoka Fellowship and is also an advisor to the MacArthur Foundation, the Workforce Funders Alliance, National Louis University, the Equitable Learning and Development Project and most recently the education transition committee of Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Dr. Danielle Moss

Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Scholars

Dr. Danielle Moss Dr. Danielle R. Moss began her career as a middle school teacher in the Bronx and Brooklyn, and served as President and CEO of the Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF), and Chief of Staff at New York Civil Liberties Union before becoming Chief Executive Officer at Oliver Scholars in 2019. Dr. Moss received her B.A. in English Literature and History with a concentration in Black Studies from Swarthmore College, and holds M.A. and Ed.M. degrees from Columbia University Teachers College, where she also completed her Doctorate in Organization and Leadership with a focus on Education Administration. She holds Certificates in Nonprofit Management from the business schools of Columbia, Harvard, and Stanford. Dr. Moss also holds a Certificate in Fundraising Management from Indiana University, The Fundraising School. She did her first TED Talk at TEDWomen in November 2018.
